Frequently Asked Questions
What makes you different?
I work in an integrative coaching style, incorporating a range of unique tools and approaches, and am (to the best of my knowledge), one of only two Psylogia practitioners in the UK.
Unlike standard life coaching which aims to help you tap into your own resources to solve your problems, I aim to give you more resources and skills, by teaching you new ways to manage your mindset and leading you through processes that can lead to permanent and life enhancing insights. With a background in counselling skills and my use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, my coaching style is more therapeutic than some, and I will be able to support you in healing and addressing your pain as well as moving forwards in life.
I aim to practice on a deeply human level, integrating the spiritual approaches and meditation practice if it suits you, and always maintaining a sense of humanity, openness and integrity. Have a look at my blog if you want to find out more about me and how I work, or contact me for an informal chat.
Is it confidential?
Everything you say to me is confidential, though there may be times when I need to share information where there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or another person. The coaching contract that you complete when you sign up has more information on this, or you are welcome to give me a call to discuss any concerns before booking a session.
Who governs how you work?
As a graduate member of the British Psychological Society, I abide by their code of ethics, available here. This means that I strive to ensure I practice according to their four key principles:
Who do you work with?
I work with adults aged 18+ and am fully DBS checked. I have personal and/or professional specialist experience and interest in working with a number of specific clients - particularly university students, creative and performing artists and musicians and those suffering with burnout and chronic health conditions. Have a read of my About Me page to find out more about my background.
Please contact me if you are a private or corporate client interested in WRAP groups, wellbeing workshops or courses on demand.
I'm a musician/performing/creative artist - how can you help me?
I have a personal interest in the arts, with a degree in English and a passion for music. I play guitar and am the co-author of The Guitarist's Solo and Songwriting Companion. I am personally very interested in how we learn, how we can tap into creativity and how we can overcome anxiety to perform at our best.
I have been lucky enough to combine my personal interest with my professional coaching by undertaking training at University College London in Performing Arts Medicine. I understand the needs and struggles of an artist and am well equipped to assist with coaching for peak performance as well as helping you to unlock your creativity or break through the walls that artists often face.
I'm a university student - how can you help me?
I have worked and/or studied at seven different universities, so I have a lot of insight into the student journey and the pressures you face as a student. Having worked in wellbeing in three of these universities, I have extensive experience of helping students to manage stress, organise their workload, learn skills to manage anxiety, break cycles of perfectionism or procrastination, overcome shyness and social anxiety and turn their time around at university.
As a former manager of a Student Wellbeing service within the NHS, I have a very good understanding of what resources are available on the NHS and what you may be able to access at your university, so can help you plan your best options to get the support you need. I will do this with your best interests at heart to help you save money and get the help you need using the resources available to you.
I am unable to see students from the University of Portsmouth, as I am currently employed there as Senior Wellbeing Advisor.
What are your fees?
I work in sessions of an hour or 90 minutes depending on your needs, charging £50 or £75 respectively. My standard coaching sessions and Access Bars last an hour. Psylogia is usually charged at the higher rate as sessions can last up to 90 minutes. Payments can be made by Paypal on my site or I accept cash for in-person appointments.
Concessionary rates may be available to enable you to access longer term coaching. Please contact me to discuss this and any other questions you may have.
Booking and availability
Coaching sessions last an hour, but I will normally ask you to allow up to 90 minutes for Psylogia sessions. I see face to face clients in rooms in Oxford Street, Southampton on Fridays, though I can sometimes offer Saturday appointments. I have additional flexibility for online and phone sessions.
For an informal chat or to book a session, please contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07980 229 206.
Wishing you an amazing future!
